Educational Purpose
PKWise helps learners see pharmacokinetic concepts as moving patterns rather than static formulae. It uses simplified teaching models to make dose timing, clearance, interactions, and therapeutic windows playable.
The app is part of the PharmaNUS collection of free pharmacology learning webapps, which are developed and updated in response to learner feedback for students and medical and health professions learners.
What Learners Practise
- Half-life, accumulation, clearance, and therapeutic window concepts
- Dose timing and exposure control
- Effects of interactions on pharmacokinetic behaviour
- Safer therapeutic reasoning from concentration-time patterns
How To Play
- Start a PKWise case or timing round.
- Give doses at appropriate times to keep exposure in the therapeutic window.
- Watch how concentration changes with time, clearance, and interactions.
- Adjust your timing or dose strategy as the scenario changes.
- Use the end-of-round feedback to review pharmacokinetic reasoning.
Use In Teaching
PKWise can be used as a short independent practice activity, a warm-up before class, a revision task after teaching, or a prompt for small-group discussion. It works best when paired with debriefing, explanation, and connection back to core pharmacology concepts.
